the role of film criticism
Critics are like Marmite to the creative industries, some swear by em and other detest them to the core of their being. But are they necessary? What’s their function? Author, Keynote speaker and Marketing consultant, Seth Godin in his book, TRIBES, noted.
“If the only side effect of the criticism is that you will feel bad about the criticism, then you have to compare that bad feeling with the benefits you’ll get from actually doing something worth doing. Being remarkable is exciting, fun, profitable, and great for your career. Feeling bad wears off. Once you’ve compared the bad feeling and the benefits, and you’ve sold yourself on taking the remarkable path, answer this one: How can I create something that critics will criticize?” – Seth Godin
In my article for The Guardian this week, i look at the role of film criticism in the film industry.
